Sporty car required, for £25,000

I've just joined and I wondered if pistonheads could help me. I want to buy a sporty car for about £25,000. It's got to be fast and fun to drive, and something a bit interesting.
I have a friend that says a BMW M3CSL would be ideal, I don't know much about them, are they a good idea?
I also like the look of 911s and looking at classifieds I can see lots of nice ones for this price.

Depending what you are looking for, 4 seats, decent boot etc, it could vary.
For balls out speed and handling, go for a Noble M12. You could get a decent M12 GTO for that or a relatively decent (higher miles) GTO3R for it.
For a bit more 'grown up-ness' (big boot, OK MPG etc), go for something like a well sorted VXR8 for that kinda cash!

How many seats?
do you want a roof? ie fixed head
if a soft top does it need to be a hard folding roof, or a traditional fabric, does it need to be a proper convertible or would a targa style do
do you want more seats than doors? ie a coupe 2+2, if so does it need to carry 4 adults for long trips? or is occasional use?
do you want 4 doors ie a sporting saloon
do you have a dog ie a sporting estate
Most important is what kind of roads will you mainly use, if long distances you'll want a sporty GT, usually a big engined bruiser
If it's more weekend blasts on country roads something nimble and light is more relevant, some can do both pretty well too.

Well unless you define "decent" as being one with a Honda, I've seen plenty of mint, low-mileage S1 Exiges from specialists selling for under £25k.Not much in the way of a boot, however
For £25k you've got options of everything from track-focused brilliance like Atoms and Caterhams to more mainstream sportscars along the lines of 911s and Caymans to powerful saloons like the M3 CSL and vanilla M3 to uber-barges like the RS6 and C63AMG. With fun stuff like Americana and TVRs out in the leftfield.
More detail of your requirements is needed. My personal preference would be for the the lightweight end of the scale, so Caterham/Elise/Exige.
Edit: Just seen the "good boot" preference - Knock the Lotuses off my list then
The 7 has plenty of room and my OH loves the car (unfortunately the impending child will reduce blatting time!).

If you want interesting then I would say buy an American car (2005-2009 supercharged Mustang springs to mind) it would fit the bill perfectly, it is fast, certainly a lot of fun and interesting, or if it isn't a daily drive get a hotrod and you would have change left over for running it and adding shiny bits.
Also for Fast, fun and interesting also a TVR would fit the bill, for that money you could get a fantastic Tuscan, T350 etc with change.
To me most other cars look too samey (with the exceptions of seriously expensive exotica, or classics) to be classed as interesting.

For that kind of money, you could get a highish spec Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X with hardly any miles on it, or a very low miler Ford Focus RS. Of the two, the Evo is probably better.
Or, buy an older Evo which are supposed to be even better to drive and will cost about a third of your total budget.
