As it was a nice day i thought id drive th ebeast in today. Several other drivers including a Saab 93 and a ford puma, cut me up and razzed off trying to prove something. Anyone else had this happen. i was driving sensibly as it was busy and didnt upset anyone a far as I know. Are they just trying to get noticed.

Zippy,

There are nutters who do the same to me, as I'm sure with other TVR drivers, too - I have a P 4.0HC Chimaera. Traffic lights, roundabouts...It's a sad state of affairs when people in any type of car try to prove something. I let them play the fool, safe in the knowledge that I can torch their b*tts if I so wished...this knowledge alone makes me smile. The best thing is to keep cool and drive safely...and let rip when conditions allow (within speed limits, of course)

To be honest, I've not had this nearly as much as I'd expected to. Though, when it does happen I try and be sensible -- if anyone is obviously "up for it" leaving the lights I let them go, and try for "smug mode". Don't always feel too smug, though

Having said that, some people seem curiously unable to see (or hear) a tvr when it's got its indicator on to change lane in stationary traffic...

Had a White Van right up my Chuff the other day (Astra estate), I think they were trying to make me go faster. I was already a shade over the limit (40), plus we were in a seaside tourist zone on a Bank Holiday - it was plenty fast enough.

We came to a 90 degree kink left and I didn't bother slowing down. White van man apparently decided he didn't need to either. Big mistake. He nearly oversteered into the ditch on the far side of the road. After that, he kept a sensible distance ! Must have been locals as they disappeared into a housing estate shortly after.

What were they thinking ?

According to my son (18) who drives my wifes car cos I can't and won't insure him for the Chim. A lot of lads try and "park in your boot" just to get you to floor it so they can see how fast your car can go....So if you really want to p*ss them off stay calm or even slow down....

I wouldn't only say Lads, White Vans, Reps, BMWs, all try to read the small print on the rear license plate. I tend to keep slowing down then back upto the speed limit till they take the hint (or in the case of the Reps, execute a reckless move and only just get past before they would have hit the car coming the other way, and this is usually the 30mph limits)

Forgot to add, I don't tend to rise to the bait cause I know that I could beat 'em if I really wanted..

I find in the Chimaera I get both more bad behaviour (goading/cutting up etc) and more good behaviour - (moving over to let me past) though sadly the bad tends to outweigh the good. This isn't illogical as it sounds, because the increase in both is instead of the indifferent to bad you get in any anonbox.

I have also experienced the downright dangerous - veering straight toward me when I was overtaking on a road with good sightlines and plenty of space, and the overtakee had moved over to help! That was one of my scariest ever moments, which I'm sure is why the mindless w**ker who did it risked three lives.

rivergirrl is right, by far the best response, if you can keep your cool, is to let them go, but also there are times when the safest thing to do is drop a gear and leave the danger area as fast as possible.....

Have to say that generally I get good behaviour. Most (not by any means all) people see me in their mirrors and pull over so I can overtake. Sometimes they flash when I do so on a single carriageway because they didn't believe it was possible, I guess.

And when they're on my tail, I just schlepp along at the speed limit and wait for a corner. This being England, I rarely have to wait long. I then don't bother slowing down for the corner/bend (assuming it's safe to do so), they have to, and suddenly they're 25-50 yards behind.

Must make 'em think -- or at least I hope it does...

I agree with the idea of showing off cornering power as an excellent way of demonstrating why sports cars exist. Lots of mondeo clones are nippy in a straight line but corner like Ark Royal. If they try to match your speed through corners, they will almost certainly scare themselves back to the reality of their sad little sardine can lives.

Great advice, apart from when you have a passenger who doesn't "do" corners.

Incidentally I was followed by a Clio of some description (probably a 172, definitely wasn't a V6) who not only did a pretty good job of keeping up with me (although I did have the aforementioned passenger with me), but very smartly overtook my on a straight when I decided to top out at 75mph and then proceeded to zoom off into the distance at an altogether unreasonable rate of knots.

I wonder what he'd done to it?

The one that always gives me a chuckle when I've someone up my chuf is to spray the windscreen wipers this then gives those behind a good spray which they need to clear with their own wipers, once they've done do it again and again and again until you run out of water or they back off. It works and makes me laugh

there was an advertisement some time ago for a car, can't remember the marque.

It showed a greyhound trap, with five dogs leaping out to chase the rabbit. In the sixth trap, there was a cheetah, sitting comfortably and watiching the dogs depart. The tagline said something about not needing to try too hard (the cheetah was always going to go faster, so what's the point in racing?).

I generally take the same attitude with boy-racers, but I do like the corner trick below!

Mrs Carzee recently told me that she routinely uses the headlamp washers on the TT to soak windscreen touts at junctions in London

If you've witnessed 'the aliens' on a TT with Xenon headlamps, you'll know what a soaking they can hand out

I too have had the Clio 172 experience. Me, 4ltr Griff, 30 limit went to deristricted, I squeeze throttle in 4th expecting to leave him, eerr, no, blip the throttle, 3rd gear, peddle to the matting, 4th gear the same and blow me, he wasn't as far away as I would have expected, not as fast granted, but not as slow as you think, Scoobies do the same to some extent. I think it's time for some mods, or a 500.

Anyway, I was having more fun and The TVR full on roar just made it, actually I probably wouldn't have cared if he had kept up, I know which car I would rather have been in.

Ancient Chinese proverb says
" Man with bigge kn*b no need to sh*g every minger he pass "

On another note:

I find most traffic will allow me to pass by pulling in without me tailgating or roaring up to them.

I've also noticed nova/saxo/xr2/clio etc etc man hangs back respectfully. Most of the time although sometimes a needs to be taught.

The 520 will give a shoot of flame out of the back on the overrun if I trail the throttle a bit first or have been nailing it and then back off. Tends to keep most crustacea off the back of the car.

I have only had one boy racer chase the 520 and I left him for dead from some lights and then slowed down from 70 to 30 as I went into a village. The car was catching me up and there were some traffic lights at some road works. As I was about to go the lights changed to red so I looked in the mirror and braked. The boy racer was trying to catch me up and thought I and he was going to run the light. As I didn't, he hit the anchors (I was in first gear looking in the mirror in case I needed to move forward ) and the car spun and landed sideways in the ditch. The lights turned green and I simply elegantly pulled away to the sound of shouting as the car's four occupants got out and found the ditch was waterlogged and very muddy indeed.

That's because a 4l TVR V8 only has 200bhp in the real world, so power isn't that much greater. Lighter weight helps, but the Clio only weighs about1100Kg, so power to weight isn't that superior either. It also has a well tuned chassis, as evidenced by it's good showing in EVOcoty.

Used to have a fairly swift Saab 900 and was constantly being cut up by the red XR3i brigagde.. Gazza haircuts, pencil line 'tash, shiny shell suit..

Of course I always made way for decent cars, :angle: but occaisionally gave the boys a sight of my tailpipe..

I'm sure there is an S out there with my name on it.. Can't wait
