Just thumbing through the latest issue of AE at my dentist waiting area and read this in the letters & comments section. I don't normally read it but was either this or Heat magazine!

Funny that the previous X-Type was launched as 4wd only, but nobody bought it.

4wd and front wheel drive. stupidly never as a 4wd n diesel though which would have been the best seller imo

ha i agree tbh winter just gone by, my saab 9-5 aero was going through the snow like a mountain goat, while my best mate in his bmw was getting stuck at least once every five minutes, evon had the saab towing his sorry behind up a slight hill the bmw could not manage

What utter trollop. Best car I ever had in the snow was a skinny-tyred RWD Austin A40. My Golf GTI was total pants in the last snow we had, it's more down to the tyres. Oh and I had better success with a RWD 3rd gen Camaro Z28 in the snow where brutal (sort of) power propelled it up a snow-covered hill the Golf failed miserably on.

I always take in new AE magazines as I have a free subscription, but hardly read them as they seem to be written for the average middle aged driver (not enthusiast).
6 months later and my mags are still there looking new.

Sorry but I'm with the AE bloke - I love my 330i in the summer but it is fecking hopeless in the snow/wet/cold. It's more an issue with the tyres (ie low profile RFTs) rather than RWD but that's how they are supplied. First sign of a few flakes and I bag the wife's Aygo

Not as bad as someone I knew slating the latest Lotus (early 80's) from a magazine report. Said the cornering was naff after reading a report in some mag or another. We got the mag and the report was saying that around 150 mph on a gentle bend on the track the steering was what ever it was. And he did not have a licence.
