I had this in an ikea car park, I didn't move the car, the jobsworth followed me into the store and called the manager on the radio telling me I would not be able to buy anything from the store until I moved the car. The manager turned up asked what all the fuss was about and effectively told the jobsworth to stop being a tw*t. Very funny.

They were waving cars into spaces and filling the car park to the right 1st so I went and parked in the corner of the car park to the left (I wasn't gestured at to come and park so went to find my own place). No sooner had I put the hand brake on, I noticed the car park attendant walking across the other car park and all the way across the car park we were in and to my car and he asked me to move it. I said I'd like to stay there as I like to park away from other cars if possible because people don't care and bang their doors into the car next to them, I also added that my car was only one week old and it'd be nice to keep it dent free for at least a few more days. He said this car park would be full shortly anyway (it was currently empty and the other car park was one third full).
Anyway, I had to drive behind him at 2mph across both car parks with him walking in front and he waved me into a space next to another car and then he parked someone next to me.
Then came the part that annoyed me, he stuck his head by my window and said "it's only a car"
That attitude is why you can't keep anything decent for any length of time.
Sure, it only cost me £12700 and it's nothing special but cars depreciate quickly enough without the carelessness of others and it's not just the issue of value, I like to keep my car looking smart.
The car park I originally parked in was still empty when we came out 4 hours later and the one we were in was not full either.

I understand you but peoples personal safety and injury are not in question here.
Respect for peoples property is a value that appear to be lost on many people these days, you included.
I guess his job - his sole purpose for being there - is to control the position of cars in that car park, so you can't really blame him; it's like being a parking warden. Also you'd hope people parking at a National Trust place are going to be reasonably careful, it's not like you've parked in downtown Brixton on a Friday night. If your car isn't safe there it's probably not wise to leave it on the roadside or in a pay and display ever...
DisneyWorld Orlando is funny for this - people who are unfortunate with their arrival time just as a row fills are directed to the end of the next row - and that be hundreds of yards away!
So they pull into spaces at the beginning of the row and the Disney staff hold everyone else up until they move, but they can's shout or wave their arms about because Disney staff don't do that sort of thing.

There are more important things to worry about, sometimes these things happen. Excepting vandalism of course, it's a risk you take.
The car park inspector may have come across as a jobsworth but it does make a change to see someone grow a pair occasionaly - Nobody likes being ordered about but sometimes you just have to take it on the chin.

I know what you mean, hardly downtown Baghdad but at a different NT place a few weeks ago I parked my Audi in a space next to a beautiful 944 complete with Porsche Owners Club stickers.I forgot something and returned to my car and was at the boot when the owner of the 944 returned and swung her drivers door into the side of my Audi and she said nothing and left the door resting on my car whilst she fiddled about.
I walked around to her car and removed her door from my front wing saying "just move this shall we".
The owner was completely oblivious.
