Got an Elise 111s at the moment but the wifes due to drop any mo and need a baby bus. Mates just got a 4.5 Cerbie and i am so tempted, got around 25K to spend, ideally want a 4.5. Have heard lots of stories about massive bills, is it worth doing? Only do about 6-8K miles a year so petrol doesn't really bother me.

do it....I am 6 months and 5k into ownership and have had no massive bills yet - even my 18k service was only £700. If you want HUGE fun sell the go kart and buy the Cerb.A little advice is buy one as new as you can - personally I was very wary of pre 98 cars and I wanted to buy from a dealer so warranty etc...not an issue. The only word you will get from me is 'YES'. Shop around drive them all and check out all the paper work and service records. If you are selective and do your homework you will be rewarded.(But small things will go wrong from time to time - but having had a LOTUS you are probably not a virgin to niggles)

whatever

Is it worth doing? Yes. Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt.

Bills can be big, so I guess it's just a case of personal tolerance and how the (bills+hassle):fun ratio stacks up for you. As we've read here and elsewhere, some cost more than others to keep running... I'm sure I don't need to tell you to buy very carefully.

Personally, that ratio is on the fun side for me -- and I hope it stays that way for a long time

afaik, you have to be a bit careful about which baby seat you go for, and if you want one in the back it has to forward facing and have an "n" shaped bar fitted to the car to support the front of it. I'm fortunate enough to have found that the previous owner had one fitted

I believe the "recaro" one fits ok in the back, though istr that there was one from m/care that fitted, too. Having said that, I'm not too sure they're suitable for "from birth" or whatever it's called.

I don't know about front seats -- though it depends on how amenable the missus (or you) is to sitting in the back!

As for the boot, it's really surprisingly tall, though not too deep (i.e. front-to-back). I should think you'd be ok though.

Why not see if you can get one on a long-ish test drive, then nip down to Halfords or m/care and see what's what?

I hope all this works out for you as it was part of my overall justification plan for getting the car in the first place -- i.e. no "reluctant sale" ads

You should be able to get a baby seat to match from any TVR dealer - hopefully a previous owner may have one knocking around at a reasonable cost.

You sould be able to get a pram in the boot without any problems - I've had two large golf bags and trolleys in the boot of the Chimaera which slightly smaller than a Cerb.

I've always found this more than slightly annoying.

They're a no-cost option for new cars (at one per car) yet s/h they appear to be less common than rocking-horse droppings. Plus, if you go to a dealer for one I think they ask for excessive amounts of cash in return. And I've never seen a s/h car advertised with one.

I'd like to be proved wrong, though.

Hang on, I've had a think about that -- they've stopped doing the leather one now, haven't they? Don't they just supply the Recarro one that's in Halfords? I still expect it's worth checking if the mods are still required to fit the set in the back, though. I expect they are.

I have a TVR Baby seat and to be honest they aren't suitable until the nipper is 12-18 months old. You can get a baby seat in the front but then the Mrs has to sit in the back. I have managed to put a pram, changing bag and holdall (kit bag size) full of toys in the boot which leaves enough room behind the drivers seat for a takeaway (Pies) and some baggy shorts etc.
