Scrapping a car

The time has come to scrap the other halfs '96 micra. Can anyone recommend any companies that will take it and would be nice to get a few shillings too. Is it worth anything and if so how much, £50?

Just slap it on ebay, you will get way more than £50 for it. Why are you scrapping it?

Point of interest (or not, depending on which side of the bed you got out of this morning) is that the new style of V5c logbooks - from August 15 - no longer have the 'scrap' tick box on them. From now on, you'll need a Certificate of Destruction from a fully equipped scrapyard to send to the DVLA when you get rid of an old car.
I wonder how many extra abandoned cars dumped in hedges and canals this new idea will create?

She got a new car so it's got to go. Not taxed cause refunded it and I don't think there's much Mot left. About 130k miles as far as I remember but starts stops and drives ok and a few dings and dongs here and there on bodywork. Would anyone pay money for that on eBay? Suppose give it a try first and see what happens

Ive just got £120 for a 1996 fiesta with a 2 page MOT fail sheet, collected with a cert of destruction. Ebay is enough hassle with decent vehicles let alone scrap

Ill make a few calls tomorrow and if I can get a ton for it it's definetly bye bye micra. Shame really cause I'd be 100 % confident I could drive to gibraltar and back without it missing a beat. I wonder will people be able to do that in their 14 year old 130k mile hyundi i10s in 2024.

Every time I've scrapped a car, I've stripped it, stored or flogged the bits, then got the scrap man to take whats left, (minus any vin plates for my security - don't want them ending up on someone elses car) sometimes cut into pieces along with other general scrap. Tick the box, send it off, job done.

Looks like I'll end up with a lot of cars continuously registered to me then....

Alternatively, I suppose lying is the other way - send them a letter:
"I sent you the certificate of destruction but you haven't updated your records, have you lost it?"

Stupid rules and regulations mean you have to bend them just to get by these days..

Yep, I fully agree and I doubt it has anything to do with potential income from failing to SORN fines either.
