Had my car a year (2006 mk2's' red cover, now done 17000miles), for the first 2000 miles it felt insanely fast,6 months into ownership the starter motor went and it chewed up the flywheel, got it all replaced but since then the car feels "slow", in fact i cldnt outrun my girlfriends 2 litre turbo tt, also the oil pressure was at 12 or 13 when the engine oil temp was at 80degrees at idle and every time i switched off when i restarted the low psi warning flashed up for a few seconds (dont know if this is related), anyway just had a 12k service hoping that would solve some of it but it still feels slow, i couldnt shake an old s2000 off my tail on sunday and i was accelerating as hard as i could, oil pressure still reading the same and warnings every time i restart when hot, was told after the service that the top end is perfect, so could the flywheel problem cause my crap performance? or might it be a bottom end problem?
I bought a tuscan from a really nice guy on here , it had looooaaads of money spent on the car all work carried out by a very well known company dealing with tvr's .
Had new engine installed , plus many more bits and bobs then i handed over my money quickly before another PH member did so .
One thing was as soon as i drove it home that it did not seem as fast as i was expecting comparing with my old 500 HC actually felt very slow , found many silly things that could of been done better from who ever worked on the vehicle in the past , but the big thing that i found was the throttle travel was around 3/4's and no more and someone had kindly placed different size nuts over the throttle cable adjuster so that the spring for the throttle return coil binds before full throttle (3/4) and the pedal does not hit the stop so straining the throttle cable every time you nailed it.
Anyway all sorted and made a massive difference
so as said check the throttle travel

thanks for your replies, the car was 12k serviced and mot'd less than a week ago, dealer has a very good rep and maintained my last 3 tvrs so i trust them, the performance has not changed since this work, mostly use normal unleaded, could the fuel make that big a difference?, as i said prev car seemed to be slower after new flywheel fitted... could there be a connection? when i mentioned it to the dealer they said the ratios can be a bit different on the mk2 and sagaris??

you defo notice the difference between fuels, when in Germany in the Sag I could only find 95ron on one fill up, car started pinking and defo loss of power when pushing on.In Germany you can get Shell 100/102ron Vracing power and the difference is night and day.

I would look at getting it on a dyno for a power run. This should cost about £50 max. If it makes the power it should then you'll know to look for problems elsewhere. They should also be able to give you air/fuel ratio data across the rev range as if this is out then it will be down on power.

Sorry for the remark and maybe overlooked, but how about your engine oil level? I hate to say this but some symptoms could also indicate an engine that needs a rebuild?

Indeed, I had to same thing with my old Griff 500; felt a lot slower after a liner repair and it turned out the engine was shot. Let a local garage do a leakage test, then you'll know. There must be something wrong, can't just be fuel or whatever.henri
