In-bloody-surance (another what car thread)

I've just been quoted nearly a grand to insure a '92 106, 1.0l TPF&T, social domestic and pleasure + occasional business use.

I'm 25, three points, no claims (but no NCB to transfer because I'm keeping the current car and policy).

Fortunately I don't own this 106. I was just hypothesising, and I certainly didn't mean to laugh directly down the line at him.

What cars are cheap to insure?

Need to do 300 miles a week, mostly in two big hits. Getting a bike in the back is essential, preferably with other stuff (cricket gear, tools, computers, stereos) as well.

I've been thinking now is the time to buy a Volvo estate. But a Hiace Compact would be ideal.

1st year costs (purchase, insurance, spares) should be no more than £2k. £1k per year thereafter.

Citroen ZX estate could be a contender, cheap to buy, run and should be a low grouping. Should be able to get most stuff in the back I should imagine.

Had the same problem when I bought and insured a second car for the 2010 Crumball rally.

If you have a current motor policy see if you can add the vehicle onto it. Might be cheaper.

Otherwise see if a classic policy is possible.

What's the other car? The mini in your profile? If so, how about side-stepping the problem and looking for a classic policy for the mini (classic policies do not attract or use NCB), leaving your NCB for the commuting car.

Have the Mini (profile pic) on a classic policy. It's been my daily driver for near nigh two years and is showing the pain. Last winter was no fun, so it's off for a lay up and electromechanical refit. The insurance company who cover that were unable to quote for the 106.

Classic Car Insurance

My mate has 4 classic cars 3 (Capri, XR3i and XR31 Cab) on classic insurance limited mileage (3000) per month. His cheapest policy no NCB is £130!

Either that or Kit Car insurance, I think I paid £270 per year 3000 miles on my Westfield when I was 25 again ncb.
