Talking to my friendly AD today and he commented that the Explorer is about to be updated, quite radically (for Rolex) to include becoming bigger than it is but still without a date. Price rise coming in Jan as well. Worth buying one of the last of the model? Could be a reasonable investment?

He also mentioned that Tudor are just finishing their new HQ in the UK and will start selling here in 2011.

He also reckons that the new Sub should start coming through in larger numbers shortly.

Are Tudor not for sale here already? Once can buy them through Rolex ADs can one not? An employee in a Goldsmiths branch I was recently in told me that they could get them in.

I'm confused. I'm assuming you're referring to the Explorer I? I thought they stopped production a while ago and replaced it with the Explorer II?

I think it's a 40th anniversary make-over to the original Explorer.

I've seen hints of the new explorer (orange 24hr hand/larger lugs) but whether that's the one we get I don't know.

It didn't float my boat, but then nor did the new Sub. Insert 'old' 'rose tinted' and 'humbug' as appropriate...

Explorer and Explorer II are two different watches. At £3000 after discount I thought the Explorer might be a good long term investment/addition to the collection.

You can arrange for a Tudor to be supplied by a Rolex AD but the watch, as I understand it, comes direct from Tudor (and has to be paid for in advance?). No-one in the UK carries the range, until next year anyway. When they arrive here I would imagine they will give makes like TAG a bit of a kicking. Only my view, but I think the new designs are great and there is a lot more intrinsic value in a Tudor compared to other makes in the same price bracket.

^^ Exactly how getting a Tudor through a UK Rolex AD works. smile
Personally I can't see it's likely to be worth that much in the future. A nice watch though, although I much prefer the Exp II with a white face and will have one at some point! biggrin
