3G coverage at Silverstone circuit

Just wondered if anybody knew how good/bad 3G coverage is there? I was hoping to get Radio Le Mans coverage on my phone whilst attending the LMS race in a couple of weeks.

3G was definitely lacking at Stowe this weekend..

Was fine on Vodafone at Becketts and Luffield and all the ground in-between.

So patchy at best. Thats probably ok as I'll not be able to tune in for the whole race but it's nice to be able to catch up when you want to. Can't rely on the PA as even just a few minutes into an LMS race there's a constant noise from racecars rendering it virtually ineffective.

Take a good old fashioned radio - I believe they broadcast on FM 87.7 MHz or on MW 1602 kHz

I could do that but with 2 little un's in tow and all their stuff I need to carry I'd rather pack as light as poss. I can get by with patchy coverage.

Poor with a good crowd, because many of them will swamp the network with data.

Best to stick to 2G when at a busy event.

This. If it's busy the local cells will be maxed out, however great the signal is.

£20 will get you a tiny FM radio. Or if you have a recent iPod they have FM built in.

We were trying to stream ITV4 coverage using a 3 dongle. Worked fine at Croft, Oulton and Rockingham but not Silverstone unfortunately.

I wouldn't bother, Vodafone was OK at Silverstone a few years ago. Now on O2 (iPhone) I'm stuggling to find 3G coverage at the best of times, I wouldn't like to try where it's busy.
Personally I'd buy a cheap fm radio.
