I need to purchase the sealant to fit waterpump into engine, It is on 1990 mx5.

I got this old hylomer instant gasket paste, im not sure if that is correct to use.

Should i get other one i.e hylomer green or something?

Ordinary DIY silicone sealant from your local DIY shop. Just a smear and let it set for 12 hours before starting the engine.

agree with pumaracing,a very light'y hurt on the casting(alloy) with fine emm, then fine mist with worth brake cleaner to pull the dirt,no need to lube threads thats OTT its pump not a head bolt lol, very fine smear of locktight black on gasket let it cure overnight i do,fill cooling system check heaters blowing hot job done simple.check coolant cold next day(cold) ???? lol

Permatex #2 if you can get it there.

Never had a water pump gasket leak when I've used it. I would not use any silicone sealant for a water pump except maybe the gray stuff Ford makes, but then I'd worry about ever getting the water pump off!

If you are going to use OAT coolant then don't use a Silicon sealant - the OAT will eat it.

Look to what the engine manufacturer recommends for the coolant and sealant specs and stay with that.

I would imagine that Mazda originally used just a gasket and that is all you need smile it's not an old forties manufacturer with crap castings smile
