Argh Sunroof stuck open

Oops my sunroof stuck open last night so I now have polythene and duck tape roof right now!

Other than the mainstealer (140 quid an hour) who else would you guys suggest I take the car to?

Its a lexus RX and I am based in Manchester.

Am pondering one of the autowindscreen places?

Suggestions would be appreciated though


its not the motor but seems the actual sunroof has gotten stuck and the motor ratchets up. when I encourage it I get some movement and the motor closes it a couple of inches.


Any ideas

Does it not have a manual close under a lute hatch somewhere? Check your manual!

have checked the manual no mention of a manual close, even popped the motor out last night to see if there was a manual winder there but no joy.

Have you checked the runners, sticky microswitches, can you hear the motor whirring, fuses, failing that it may be that the cogs have been stripped. Long shot, with new cars is there a control box for the sunroof may need the logic reset - (disconnect battery). If you can find a parts/wiring diagram may be able to help further.

Been to Lexus Manchester

Will have to replace the whole sunroof cartridge apparently and 5 hours of labour

total cost is 1365 quid even the sales staff said it was too much to fix and just to leave it

But in true Lexus service they managed to close the sunroof, disable the switch and give my car a quick check over. Even washed it and topped my fluids up. All for free.... excellent service and help on a day where I was in quite a panic mode.

very good service that, I would have at least expeced to have to pay for the labour of shutting the sunroof, nice to year of a dealer looking after it's customers.

Yes guys they do deserve to be named and praised!

when I had my LS430 they always changed my bulbs for free too so this dealer is a gem and seriously has me thinking about an IS-F 220d

Wow that is great service!

My Fiat Multipla leaks from the front sun roof with the "right" kind of weather and the back one sticks when opened. It has a hatch thing with a metal key (bit like a bigger stronger sardine tin opener!) so you can wind it back manually. Luckily the designers had the forethought to put the electric switch over the driver's head rather than where young fingers can get to it...

With service like that, if I'm ever in the market for a Lexus, I would travel that distance specially.

Good customer service deserves to be rewarded, and a good dealer like that is worth it's weight in gold.
