getting fed up with footwells full of water and noisy journeys. talk me out of buying a g wagen instead of my 110. speed isnt an issue, but being comfy / warm / dry is becoming one. off road ability not a problem really, sometimes i venture onto the grass. cheers...mike. and dont kill me i love defenders.

Considered a Jap double cab with a load bay cover?

My 51 plate Navara is brilliant. Never let me down, tows better than my Discovery (TDi) and is more comfortable then any of the 90/110s I have driven.....and cost 5k less then the same year TD5 110.

I think you will find the G-wagon expensive to run. MPG is not great with them; but they are pretty reliable.

If you want to keep with a Landrover and want something a bit more comfortable then trade up to a 50th anniversary model.Compared to the normal 200-300tdi offerings its leagues ahead. It will be the closest you get to a G-Wagon.I sold my 50th for a Hummer H2. I haven't been disappointed. Its great. But i know at some point i will have another Defender. Just love'em.

Correct. V8 with a NAS-spec auto box and (might be wrong here) higher ratio transfer box.
Must admit I've occasionaly looked at the G-Wagen instead of a Defender. They are even better off road as they have axle diff locks as well as the transfer diff lock of LR, and Teutonic engineering throughout. The German offering just seems so horrendously expensive, with even ten year old sheds still commanding five figure prices.weeping

I have.Plus the Peugot P4(the licensed built copy of the G) The G-wagon feels more solid that the Defender, and a slightly more car like feel on the road. There is still a rawness about it. And is quite spartan inside compared to other merc offerings. A bit like a Defender in that dept. They do have character, which is lost on most of todays transport. They are nice. But i am Defender biased so personnaly stick with a defender. There is not really a great after market spares with a G. And you will find that most parts will have to be bought from Mercedes themselves unlike the Defender.

That's the insight I am after. Guess I need to drive one and see. Defender is great, all of them have been, but it rains a lot in wales and I keep having to bail out the footwells. And with a new baby in tow, it might be less nosiy aamd more comfy. And no I don't want a range rover. smile

Or you could actually fix whats wrong with the defender instead of moaning about it? tongue out

Is it a leaking seal? how old is it? If you like it but want comforts, then fix the leak, fit better sound insulation, you can get stuff that replaces the carpets and is more water resistant.
Get exmoor trim seats fitted as they will be more comfortable.

Just a thought as it would be cheaper than selling up and trying to find a new car you like.

Google and a bit of time is your friend here.

Go G-Wagen!!!!

They are cool and hold their money well. If you don't like it, sell it in 12 months for what you paid for it and get another Landy.

Not sure on your budget, but the new (2005- JK model) Jeep Wrangler Unlimited might be worth looking at. Everything a Defender is but better built, more powerful, faster and modern.

might look for 1 in europe, spend a lot of time over here and lhd no problem for me. my defender is auto, professional conversion. still imagine a g wagen is a bit smoother though to. anyone want an auto defender let me know.

I have a 911 Turbo and a 110 that's just a little tricked up with snorkel, steering guard, winch and a few other things. I drove down to the south of France in the 911 and there were a few appreciative glances and knowing smiles....

...but when I took the 110 down there, excuse the vulgarity, but it was like a fanny magnet!!!

I had very scantily clad women clambering to have their photos taken in it and lots of chat from the Dutch female petrolheads.

Said enough yet? biggrinbiggrin
