I have searched and read but just for a definitive....

what oils are best for a 2001 4.5 AJP is Mobil a winner?
and
oil pressure mines around 70 psi hot and cold - with a bit of a rise under (ahem) spirited acceleration

ta

edit - my service history (specialists and main dealers) just lists Mobil and some code - I'll look again tonight for the actual weight of oil used.....

I use Mobile 1 motorsport oil as I once tried the 0w-40w and it used a lot of oil and sounded worse too.

Cold: 70psi tickover rising to 75-80psi under light load
Warm: 45-55 psi tickover rising to 65-70psi under load

I use Silkolene Pro S 10W50. I'm suprised there is no variation between hot and cold pressures.

0-40 Mobile One used here, 65 cold idle 65 at 2000RPM,

40PSI at idle when really hot sometimes drops to 30 at idle when used on the track giving the oil a real work out rising to 50 at 2000RPM and 60 at 3000RPM.

ahh if only i could type...

i meant to say 60psi warm tickover with a rise under spirited driving to 70/75. 70psi is also the "cold" temp point .

haven't hooked up the laptop yet

I made up a diag cable for my tuscan - I assume the same cable will work with the Cerb....just hoping the sodding search facility works so I can find out if there is a flying connector or do I have to open the ecu (and I don't know where that is yet either)

The ECU is in the passenger footwell behind a bit of fibreglass covered in carpet. As to whether there is a flying lead already - its luck of the draw. Some seem to have it wired, and some you have to open the ECU.
You will either need a standard 9 pin serial cable or a 3 pin to 9 pin lead depending.

Pressures sound fine then. Re the diag cable, mikesr listed the pin outs a while ago so search his profile. I had to open the ECU connector and poke extra pins into it to hook the diagnostics up for a 971 ECU, the older 940 ECUs have a 9 pin serial port in the middle of the board which can be used. I got the extra pins from S B Developments, quick delivery too.

Just to add something else to discussion on oil note from TVR Power warranty on engine rebuilds. TVR Power I hope you are OK with me cutting and pasting this!

"- breakdown or damage caused by the use of incorrect fuel, oil, lubricant, coolant or other fluid, including the use of fully-synthetic oil or use >500 miles beyond a recommended service interval will automatically void this warranty;"

and

"You must ensure that you use the following grade of oil during and after the running in period; [0 - 1000 miles use only 10W/40 mineral oil] and [>1001 miles use only 10W/40 or 15W/40 semi-synthetic oil"

Glazing of the bores can be attributed to the use of fully synth oil and this is valid throughout the lifetime of the engine, not just through a running in period. My Cerb is using a lot of oil hence the investigation.

I am no expert in this areas and have always run my Chim and Cerb on Mobil 1 or Mobil Motorsport. This is also the oil of choice of the Indy I have used in the past for servicing.

I am a bit confused to be honest, but have Mobil Semi Synth and oil filter in the boot ready for a change to both cars.
