Racing school / recreational motorsport

I may have the next couple of months off work and would love to do something 'productive' in my time off in terms of motorsport.

I love circuit car racing (sadly watching it rather than doing..) and it would be great if I could do some sort of motorsport in my time off. (only done a couple of corporate track days at Palmer Motorsport which were amazing)

Anybody got any suggestions? I live in London but would be willing to travel a little bit.

No idea if there even is such a thing but in the same way people go on Tennis camps or golfing holidays, is there something similar for motorsport? I have personally never seen anything but I'm sure there must be something fun I can do in my time off..

Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Rockingham will all offer 'experience' days as well as more intensive tuition, that's where I'd start:

I would recomend the Silverstone driving school. I attended many years ago back in the mid 90s as it was pretty much the only way someone like myself could get into racing having no friends or family who were remotely interested in motorsport. I actually went there for about 2 years racing in the single seater championship and had loads of fun if not some of the best times of my life, I am not sure if they do the same thing nowadays but they used to do a week long course which starts of with practising and culminates in your 1st races at the end, and the races are 'proper' races too sometimes on the bill with another racing club such as 750mc for instance, again I am not sure if they still do this as its been a while. Whatever you go for you wont regret it karts are fun with wheel to wheel racing and 2 stroke karts are real buzz but to me nothing can compare to fullsize car racing.

Maybe offer out a bit of help at race meetings if your half decent with a spanner?

Plenty of people could do with help even if it's just mucking round with tyre pressures etc but I know from personal experience it's always useful to have an extra pair of hands around.

If you fancy hillclimbs and sprints, Prescott and Shelsley Walsh both have drivers schools. For Prescott you need to google Bugatti Owners Club.

I'm pretty sure that Silverstone no longer do the 5 day courses but there are plenty of places that offer driving experience days from Jonathan Palmer at Bedford Autodrome to any one of several Rally Schools.

You might have to travel between locations but you should be able to get several days in at a number of locations, & then there are the "normal" trackdays in your own car as well.
