Thanks, I think I will give The Wall a try
ETA: Is the start just a (long) climb up a fire road like Penhydd
All the trails start with a climb, but you soon forget about that when youre flying downhill.ETA: Is the start just a (long) climb up a fire road like Penhydd

Whites Level is great.
Seconded. Whites Level is a better ride than 'The Wall' imo. I would ride W2, it will give you Whites and the Wall. If you are not up to that then it has to be Whites. Better than the Wall because there is not so much fire trail, the climb is brilliant. The climb on the wall is really boring firetrail, on whites it is sculpted singletrack and really good! You have the option of the black run at the top and Whites is worth it just for energy and darkside.

Afan used to be my local trails, but it's ages since I've been. Always loved the Penhydd - just seemed to be so much fun singletrack for so little climbing.
IIRC Whites Level (from the old car park on the other side of the valley to the main visitor centre) starts with a long and quite technical singletrack climb. It's challenging enough to be fun rather than simply daunting.
Going this weekend...
The Wall is a cracker - although the ascent is fireroad, and a bit boring..
Whites Level is a fantastic climb.. and good variation on the descents...
Will also going to Cwmcarn for a day..
Now, the other one is Brechfa - is there a full days riding there? Is it worth the journey? How does it compare to Wall/Whites for fun/ability etc...
Cheers

I think that Energy was shut back in July when I was there, possibly due to the oak disease. It's probably worth looking to see what closures are in existance at any one time.
Brechfa is well worth a trip, plenty of variety and a bit different to Afan, even the green and blue runs are good fun. Another venue is Cwm y Rhaiadr a couple of miles north of Llandovery. It's not a long circuit and is basically a gravel climb up to the trailhead followed by a single track plummit back down to the start and do it again......probably best to combine it with a trip to Brechfa which is nearby. Good pub in the village too......

Cwn is ok, the red is good, but IMO doesnt even come close to the available rides at Afan.
White Level is the alternative!., i also really enjoy the wall!
You can still ride penhydd, I was there a few weeks ago, and was told its ok, but be careful as there is no one up there.
We had the whole trail to ourselves!. awsome!!
