Black/Black 2004 X5 3.0D Sport reg: RN53 BSZ GBP9,870
http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-pa...

BEWARE, saw the above ad and thought that’s cheap should be 15K IMHO. Always one for a bargain thought Id check it out anyway. I pasted the transcription of our email correspondence. The poor English and Spanish answer phone should have been enough but the demand for full cash and refusal to prove ID clinched it. I suppose slim chance of pukka but “Caveat Emptor”

My 1st mail:
Your advert for the BMW X5 3.0 as seen on the
www.ClassicCarsForSale.co.uk web site.

Hi, can you confirm FBMWSH and date/type and mileage of last service?
How many owners and are u registered keeper?
Any finance / accident history
confirm car is auto?
When were tires and brake disc/pads last change ?
Is it 53/04/ or 54 reg?
How much tax and mot?
Would you agree to independent inspection if we agree sale?
condition of bodywork and interior?
Has car been smoked in?
Tow bar?
Regards
mark

1st reply:
The car is in perfect condition.
I will go where you want to incpect it.All on the car are like new.I have it from new.
If you have more questions let me know.
-
My 2nd mail:
Graham, thanks for the photos and reply. The cars looks nice
You say you've had the car form new but ad says 2 owners, can you explain?
I live and work in japan,(but have property in Berkshire) I am happy to buy remotely but obviously need some security if Im to transfer money without seeing car.
Sorry to ask questions gain but Im 8 hours out of time zone and many 0000's miles away. Id like to agree a price before I spend money an inspection.
Confirm FBMWSH and date/type and mileage of last service? Can you send photo of service history? Do you service receipts and old MOT's
Any finance / accident history
When were tyres and brake discs/pads last change ?
How much tax and mot?
Has car been smoked in?
Confirm all electrics and aircon working order
Tow bar?

Could you pdf a copy of the V5 and your driving license, I can send a copy of my DL and or Passport in exchange.
if we can agree a deal I would propose to send deposit immediately form my UK account, and balance on evidence of collection by third party car transport company.

Regards
mark

im starting to think there may be scammers using the internet

I paid £15000 to a paypal account for an e90 m3 that was in spain and its been over a week now and i've not heard anything back.

AND the money has disappeared from paypal.

Paul, if your being genuine you have my deepest sympathies and I hope you resolve soon.

If your being sarcastic then I apologies for trying to help others and save a possible loss by somebody else. My mistake I thought benefit of a forum like this was to provide advice, assistance and share info good and bad. I’ve certainly benefitted many times from many very helpful members of this forum. I have however noted a steady decline in standards of posting with majority seeming to deride, criticize and generally ride people, that’s not for me and why I post sparingly.

I apologise if that’s not your intent but it could be taken either way and I don’t believe I warranted the latter.

Surely not. How can you be so distrusting?

Your M3 will arrive soon. Have faith in the goodness of strangers.

Why would anyone?

(a) there is no world shortage of x5's?
(b) what does it matter?
(c) if it sounds dodgy it probably is, so why get involved?

To be honest, you might as well have posted that it's going to get dark tonight.

Apart from anything else, why would someone advertise an X5 in a Classic Car list?

As I said before "I have however noted a steady decline in standards of posting with majority seeming to deride, criticize and generally ride people, that’s not for me and why I post sparingly".

Just what I've come to expect from the pond life that now seem to have a hold on this forum. When you grow old enough to have facial hair perhaps you'll realise the error of your attitude.

To the OP:

That advert has all the classic signs of being a scam - the ridiculously low price and his reluctance to answer your questions, coupled with repeated requests for you to transfer money should give it away.

Everyone loves a bargain, but if it looks like a scam and smells like a scam, it probably is a scam.

The other replies are worded how they are because these come up all the time.

Dan, yes I agree, I was just seeking to name and shame the advert and advertiser and save other people the hassle / waste of time / potential to be caught out.

You can't try and share info without snide unnecessary comments on this site. It never used to be like this or am I just getting to old and think manners in all ares including internet forums is old hat!

Do you think the advertiser really feels shamed? I suspect not.

If we all posted every time we saw a suspect scam advert, there'd be no room for any other threads.

I've read about 100 of posts like this since i thought to type a polite response like 'i think this could be a scam'.

The whole flapping about saying 'OMG there could be scammers using the internet' is wearing a bit thin, hence the mild ribbing you got.

God Bless indeed.

I suspect you will find a crate of Champagne in the boot to make up for the inconvenience.

Perhaps you would share the Champagne in toasting my good fortune to have won the lottery in Nigeria. I am making a money transfer of £1000 for the organisers' fees today and they will respond by sending me £1million back next week. Fantastic, isn't it?
