Stay off the left pedal & keep the right one planted.

If you don't manage to post a faster lap, you will at the very least get touched up by a nurse before the day is out.

Win win.

Hold the brake and throtle padal at the same time and launch it off the line. Once ahead you'll have clear track ahead of you and the widest kart on the track. wink

This. They'll tell you not to, because it's hard on the centrifugal clutch, but do it anyway biggrin

Don't brake. Ever.

As enjoyable as it is, don't be hanging the back end out on the kart on every corner, it really saps momentum and slows you down. You really need to carry as much speed through the corner as possible so do all your braking before the corner, turn in, sight the apex, hit it and wind of the steering lock as you apply throttle on the exit of the corner.

Biggest tip! When racing with amateurs, keep your distance, hang back if there are a large number of karts heading into a corner, watch them crash and pick a clean line past. You will gain so many places by just keeping out of way of the morons who go into every corner full throttle, brake too late and slide sideways to a stand still (they will tell you they were drifting).

Just my 2p worth, no point in getting too technical when you are on the track with 20 people just wanting to have a fun bash around.

If you haven't spun it your simply arent going fast enough.

Keep your hands loose otherwise they will hurt a lot from the vibrations.

Remember to look over your shoulder.

DON'T try and hang the arse end out - it makes you slow.

Don't enter the corners too quick, you will scrub all your speed on understeer.

Also, and I speak from experience, being of a "chunky" persuasion is a deficit frown

So chop off your left leg. You won't need it anyway biggrin

Dont be a fatass. I appreciate it may be too late to change this but it is probably the second most important factor I've encountered when karting smile

have you been karting before?

is it indoor or outdoor?

basically have fun really.. there isnt much you can be told tips wise other than tips for the track, which ive never been to!

Warm up the tyres/brakes
wear slim soled shoes

Ah, just remember a good tip, lean OUT of the kart on the corners, lifts the inside wheel and doesnt scrub as much speed as its a fixed axle. Like others have said, dont get the arse out, its all about momentum!

  • I didn't know*
I thought you were suppose to lean IN. I'm not to sure why I thought this. But I did. Will give that a go next time. Although it will prove pretty difficult as the seat is a bit snug.

it is often possible to harrase the driver in front into making a mistake.

keep pulling out so that he can see you over his shoulder, he will soon get it wrong.

and if he doesn't, a quick tap into the barriers often works smile

had a great day

37 x 1200m laps with 8 qualifying, started third and finished 10th frown

very harshly penalised for kerbing and ended up with a black flag for 30secs

bagged the second fastest lap on the penultimate lap so pleased with that stat anyway smile

never got round to applying the lean out technique, maybe next time

surprisingly not aching that much either or have a sore head from last night
