OK. Now this time it's Mrs Don and I that have run out. We've watched CSI: The Lot and NCIS: All of em. We've seen Flashforward, BSG, SGU, Firefly and more.

Our Sky+HD was replaced recently: nothing on there. My Media PC is empty of shows.

I need new shows to record. Seasons of the stuff. This is because after dinner each evening the Mrs and I watch a show or two. We do not watch ads. We do not put up crud.

But the library is BARE!

So:

What shows broadcasting now or starting soon is worthy of my attention: or rather, the Series Link, button? IN EXTREMIS: What shows are worthy of rental as a boxed set of a season?

What show? What channel/night? Why?

And thanks in advance for help you can offer...

Ahah! Christina Hendricks. lick

Is the drama any good, though? I know the love Ms Hendricks is fine but the Mrs will need to be able to watch it, too!

If I was you I'd take a look to see what HBO are putting out at the moment. There is a new thing from them starting soon with Steve Buschemi in about Atlanta in the prohibition era.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was written by Aaron Sorkin. It was only 1 series of 24 shows, each about 45 mins, but I enjoyed it.

Currently we try to keep up to date with Entourage, True Blood, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory.

I started Sons of Anarchy, but need a couple more episodes to decide whether to bother continuing.

Yes, just watched the whole series and it is awesome.

I would also recommend Dexter, 4 seasons of that to watch if you have never seen it before.

Another vote for both Breaking Bad and also Dexter. The 5th season of Dexter starts on the 26th so it gives you some time to watch the previous 4 seasons! wink

Excluding The Unit (I've not seen it so couldn't comment), this is a brilliant list to start with. May I also add:

Prison Break
The Big Bang Theory
Band Of Brothers
Dexter
Californication
Entourage

Breaking Bad would be my high recomendation - it's possibly one of the finest series I've seen in some time!

It's fairly slow, but some interesting characters. Know a few women who like it.

May I also submit for your viewing pleasure...The Shield. I managed to pick up the box set of all 7 seasons for 30 quid from flea-bay....and it's excellent!

I quite like Chuck for some light entertainment.

White Collar wasn't bad but seems to have disappeared

I keep meaning to record Dexter but always forget.

My favourites that are still going are

Dexter
House
NCIS

It is hard to think of any new US shows that have started in the past couple of years that are particularly good. We may be entering a slack period for US drama shows.

Edited to add. One I had forgotton was a one off season (Generation Kill) which is very good. The best war drama series since BOBs.

Most of the above are good, also worth watching The Pacific, same style as Band of Brothers.

Also there's a new series coming out set in the Al Capone/prohibition era that looked good in the trailers, had some big names in it, called Boardwalk Empire. Looks to be worth a watch.

Watched Sean 1 of K-Ville and really enjoyed it. Has Season 2 started?

Slightly lighter choices would be Lie to Me (with the excellent Tim Roth) and the Mentalist (on Five).

Both have a similar premise that the hero can either tell when someone is lying or spot vital clues/tells/body language and solve the case.

Worth a shot!
