At Oulton on Saturday the oil light came on intermittantly when braking from speed. Pressure was at 5, temp at 8 o'clock and levels on he gauge and dipstick are OK.
AFAIK 911's don't suffer from oil surge. Any ideas?

From the Drivers Manual of my 3.2 Carrera....

"The oil pressure should be at least 3.5 bar gauge pressure at an engine speed of 5000 rpm. It is normal for the oil pressure to drop at higher temperatures. At idle speed with hot oil it is permissable for the red control light to light briefly without this indicating any loss of engine reliability"

Not sure if this helps, especially if the oil temp was not that high (8 o'clock is quite low if driving hard).

What was the oil pressure like when the light came on?

Phil.

Yes, well thanks 9M, I'm sure that would fix it but I was hoping for a slightly cheaper solution. Anyway I was thinking more along the lines of 993tt.

It's been doing it for some time but the last few winter trackdays have all been cold and wet so I had forgotten about it. I was wondering if the temp of the oil was a factor leading to low pressure of the throttle - I'll try to rember to look at the pressure next time.
