Hi there all, again...

I have a horn that does not make a sound, which is nice for the big raised 4X4 trucks that don't see me in the car and start to cross over me.

I have looked everywhere...Lotus did a better job than Houdidni in hiding this object.

Does anyone have any clues or suggestions. I have a 1995 USA LHD Esprit S4S.

Kindest regards

Jim

try the end of the turn signal stalk... I discovered it by accident while trying to signal one day, confused a few people. I don't know about the later models, but the horn on my 86 is pathetic anyways

The S4s has electric (not air) horns located in a small compartment on the front left corner of the front valence. You access it by removing the lip spoiler and a splash shield.

Before you go through the trouble of dismantling the front of the car to access it, I would check your horn relay and electrical contacts. The likelyhood of the actual horn unit going bad is quite low.

So Jim, what was the problem and how did you fix it? With all problems, use the, "PIE" procedure. Problem evaluation, Institute the fix, Evaluate the solution.

What is your feedback on the evaluation of the fix?

I am embarassed about this but after checking the fuses , and relays etc. My wife just pushed the cheesy switch pretty hard and Beep Beep we had sound. This sound came in pretty useful this Monday evening when a Tow Truck who was initialy parked decided it was time to drive into the front left wing of my S4S as I passed slowly in the lane next to him... so...beep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep crunch !!!

Ouch.
This is what happens when a retard in a big truck cannot see a tiny little Lotus.

Oh Well.

Jim sorry to hear your baby got damaged, but glad you found the horn was ok. It sometimes takes another person to see what the problem is and can be just simple little things.
I got my horns replaced last year, I had the tragic sad cow sound and was beyond just needing a good clean, so out they came and a new set put in. Any excuse to use them

Hi Jim... man that is bunk~! While it is getting it's bits put back in order, I highly recommend getting some trumpets. There are a couple brands and they mount real nice in front of the wheel arch. A bit of surgical tube and you can split a piggy back more than one or two. I have teins that are high and low pitch... you can hear them ... no... I mean it... YOU could hear them. They are much much better and give the car a little bit more class. I could not get over my old horn sounding like the buik mom had in the 80's!

hope it gets sorted out soon...

Jim,

I probably owe you an apology. I didn't mean to make light of the damage to your car. The slow motion visual just struck me as funny at the time.....

How bad was it? Hope you aren't out of commission too long.

We all know how you must feel so let us know if we can help at all.

must admit I agree, small low cars need bloody loud horns to get noticed because it is all too easy for some durr-brain in a monster truck to side swipe 'em or something.
I had one guy reverse onto my bonnet while I was stationary behind him even though I let out a loud one.
....peep on the horn that is
