Hi All,

A friend of mine has picked up a NIP for speeding on a Dual Carriageway (in wales).. they thought it was a 70 limit but it was a 50 limit, accordingly they got a ticket for 67 in a 50.

The NIP contains the ususal intention to prosecute, but no offer of a 3 points and 60 quid settlement.. should they worry about this.. is 67 in a 50 too serious for a conditional offer.. there have been rumours about that it might mean more than 3 points.

What do you good people think..?

Cheers,
Matt

Just to add, someone in the office reckons he'll have to go to court, collect 4-5 points and around £100 fine.. this seems a bit extreme to me !!

Well, don't know if this helps, but when I was done (by a Talivan) for 72 in a 50 limit they gave me the standard 3 points and £60 fine. I think different forces have different ways of doing NIPs. Some wait for you to name the driver, then offer your the fixed penalty, others offer you it at the same time.

The NIP is just to id the driver.

Once sent back (if you so choose ) then an offer or court summons will be generated accordingly.

Just the way they do things in wales. They are also known for issuing NIPs without the speed listed, thus stopping mega speeders knowing they are facing an automatic ban before completing the form self incriminating themselves etc. Expect an offer of 3 points and the £60 fine for the speeds mentioned.

Maybe worth checking if the signage was correct? This happened in Bristol recently where a few hundred poeple were let off when a temporary 50 mph sign blew over on a motorway make the 50 limit invalid.

London Met don't show your speed either, but will tell you if you call them and ask...
