Based in Sheffield but know North Derbyshire / Chesterfield area pretty well...

Bolsover Castle if you fancy getting all medieval.
Chatsworth Estate if you fancy a nice walk (Gardens you have to pay to get in but you can do the estate FOC (£2 to park near the house)).
Heights of Abraham (Matlock Bath) if you fancy something rather different.
Speedwell Cavern (Castleton) if you want to get all adventurous.

Monsal Head has one of the most stunning views around and has a pub or two behind you. If you like a bit of a walk then down in the valley must be one of the most peaceful places around too, there also some great roads around there to call in at some of the places above.

If you go to Castleton it's always worth walking Mam Tor. The last time we walked it on a clear day like today there was a Harrier jet doing some low level flying in the valley. We were looking down on it flying!
