I am nearing the end of a 12 month contract in Europe (paid in Euros, weak Sterling means I am quids in smile) and have made a few applications for my next position.

In my sector (Pharmaceuticals and drug development), in my experience, I have to typically make 10-15 applications to secure 2-3 interviews and hopefully get an offer of employment from one of those.

I was wondering if the above figures were representative of other sectors (construction, legal, whoring, IT etc etc), or have I got it all wrong? Am I lucky?

In IT, and from the other side of the table, we usually go through about 100 to 150 CVs to find ~20 people to do a telephone interview with, of which maybe 5 will get invited onsite for a more indepth interview, of which hopefully 1 will get a job offer (otherwise we have to do it all again).

IT. 1 application, 2 interviews, 1 offer. Every time so far. bowtie

ETA: Might be in line for redundancy with the current one though so I may well not be feeling so smug soon!

I'm a very experienced customer service manager. Since mid-March I've made about 70 applications and been interviewed for 3 positions.

IT (for me at least), 2 applications, one set of interviews (usually telephone then face to face), then job offer

Last year, this time of the year, took over 200 applications and over 100 interviews to get a job. Most companies came back with "You are overqualified, you are gunna leave us in 6 months, so we gunna go for someone worse than you". tts.

It can depend on how well you fit, I am looking for permanent work and sent out 1000s of CVs and only had a couple of phone calls back.

engineering here. i'd say 50ish apps in 6mths, 12 interviews, a few unsolicited approachs (company seen my cv online), one very bloody cheeky approach, 4 job offers. like buses, the offers all came in a glut.

pretty good for my sector imo. lucky in that my cv had a lot of work thanks to input from a pher (waves to p&m), my degree is slightly different from the norm., and I'm ace in interviews.

however, whilst I now have a job, I can't see the career I desire. this is my challenge.

Wow, I'm not doing too bad then. Two applications, two interviews, no offers as yet, but still waiting for interview 2 (I've got a couple of weeks yet). I work in strategic/data analysis.

IT (software dev) here, very proud to say i've been offered every job i've interviewed for! Which translates to 4 interviews, 3 jobs since the start of a placement year at uni. I'm still quite early into my career though, so i don't expect that run to last forever.

Electronic design, if I talk to an agent about something on Jobserve, then it it is real and I want it I know I can get it. Not had a failure in six years of contracting. I've had many instances of an agent just phishing for CVs and a few where the project fell through, but if they'ce taken on anyone, it's been me.

Back when I was 16 I sent 1 CV off and always got a call back by the time I got home. About 7-8 months ago I was offered 2 jobs which I turned down as they were too far away.

Since then though I must have posted off about 100 CVs. Had only 1 interview from that and although they said I had the job they would not budge on the hours (I was at Uni at the time) so I had to decline. Mt GF must have posted off a good 150 CVs aswell to places to get her first ever job (she is 17) and she has had maybe 3 interviews but nothing back from them.

Make that 2 applications, 2 interviews, no offers

Annoyingly the immediate feedback from today's one was: you were by far the best fit for what we wanted, but someone else scored slightly higher at the interview. I wish they hadn't said that. I'm assuming I neglected to say some key phrases or something (competency based interview)

Software dev.

Just received an offer in writing yesterday.

So 3 applications 1 interview, 1 offer. (and lots of voicemails from recruiters offering irrelivent jobs at the other end of the country!)

Telecoms contractor here.

Most contracts I've had are word of mouth and recommendations. I have had 3 interviews for my past 6 contracts, 2 with people I've worked with before? Very odd!

second interview went very well. Only trouble is that the client company (I was interviewing with an outsource company providing a service to the client) had not fully decided what they were interviewing for and the role I applied for and was interviewed for originally no longer exists.

First interview Today (friday) for a driving job! I got it through knowing someone else that has just taken a managment position in the company and they recomended me. Better hours (no more nights) and slightly better pay. If I pass the interview I then have a driving assesment and then I am in! wish me luck!
