My garden is around 160+ foot long with double gates where we park, as it's getting dark earlier I'd like to put some lighting up there rather than walking into the trees when trying to unlock the gates.

Is it ok to run a cable obviously sleeved and weatherproofed along the fence or is the distance too long?

Should be ok, as long as you use stuff that's properly rated.

We regularly use 100 metres of mains cable with work, albeit with 16A c-form connectors on the ends. I doubt having 16A instead of 13A would make that much difference though, as long as your load isn't too high. Offhand I don't know how to figure that bit out, mind you, so some professional advice might not be a bad thing.

Should be OK, provided the cable is the right capacity. Make sure its earthed and protected properly.

Cheers, I just want to put up two 60w lamps around the parking area and probably a power socket for the hoover.

Go to http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index...

Click on Cable Size Calculator, and enter one of the amoured cables it will then calculate the diamter cable you required for your run length plus intended use.

Brilliant, thanks.

As we have no street lights over looking the garden you literally can't see your hand in front of your face. That's my weekend sorted.

Cheers all.
