I have never been much of a car polisher - but I decided its about time I gave the body of the V8S a bit of attention.
I bought a Meguiars clay kit from Halfords today - I was very sceptical but the difference to the paintwork afterwards is absolutely incredible.
I've given it a polish now too and WOW! Watch out Tinks!
I've never clayed paintwork before but have to say - well at least with this kit - it was really easy.
My daughter just got a digital SLR for her birthday so I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
There is one disadvantage though - my cheap argos car cover has had a rip down the middle for ages - now the car is shiny shiny the bloody cover won't stay on - it just slides off onto the floor!

I bought the Meguiars kit from Halfords.
You get a trigger spray of the lubricant, 2 bars of clay, a nice quality cloth to wipe it off with, and a couple of samples of Meguiars polish.
You work the clay in your hands to soften it a bit - its just like plasticine - then you squirt on the lubricant, rub the clay on it, then wipe the lube off with a cloth. The clay doesn't stick to the body at all. Its dead easy, you feel the surface change as you're doing it, initially it feels rough as you rub the clay over it, then it goes smooth. It doesn't take much rubbing. It takes longer to polish the car than it does to do this (which I did afterwards).
If you rub your hand over the paintwork beforehand you'll feel tiny litle rough bits of dirt sticking up, afterwards it feels perfectly smooth.
I also used the Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 which I also really liked as you don't get the white snowstorm afterwards that you get with Auto Glym Polish which is what I've always used in the past.

I can recommend claying the cars, I did my S and now my Jag. Really cleans up the surface of the paint.
Ideally afterwards you want to use a paint cleanser or cleaner polish to really get the paint as good as it can be, then wax seal the finnish.
I always used P21S or R222 wax as its now called, but having a silver car now (notoriously hard to get any depth) I have gone with trying the NXT from megs. Its getting some good reports compared to expensive waxes but I havnt tried it yet.
They also do a "quick clay kit" for about £14 with just 1 piece of clay, but its enough to do 1 car
