Audio out on TVs
Discussion
Some TVs ( LG and Toshiba ranges from memeory ) give you the option of variable audio outputs. With fixed outputs, used on most TVs, the external amp you use determines the sound level; variable outputs simplify things and then the TV electronics sets the volume level. This just helps from the remote contol point of view.
What's the budget for the amp ?? Another advantage of using variable audio out on the TV is that you'll only need a simple slave amp if the TV is doing the pre amp work.

I was considering one of these LG tellies:

Would that have a suitable output?
Budget for amp? My wife says not very much

Get a TV with variable outs, and a cheap, simple digital amp - I think Sonic T used to do a little slimline thing. With luck, you can hide it above your wall bracket out of sight - most slimline amps have an offboard power supply (kind of like your laptp), but you can easily chop and extend the power cables post transformer, as long as it;s low voltage.

Had a quick look on AVforums; I don't think that LG model has any conventional analogue audio outputs, either fixed or variable. It appears to have an optical digital out instead ~ not sure on the audio amp advice sorry; there'll be others on PH better placed to recommend one for you.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Sorry to bring this up again and sorry to be asking such a simple question, but.....
Is there such a thing as an amp which can be plugged in to headphone socket one side and into a pair of speaker on the other. This means I could control the speakers via the TV remote.
Or is this a stupid idea?

OK, what does everyone think of this please:

It will only be used to drive a pair of Control 1 JBLs, fed from the Sky box. Good value for money?
