V8S Mystery Box

Does anyone know what this is? I found it under the dash/ bolted to the bulkhead when I was trying to stuff all the wiring back in this morning?

Has anyone come up with a solution to that awful mess of wiring hidden behind the glove box? I was thinking of moving the fuse box into the glove box for ease of access and maybe fitting a hinged tray under the dash to hold the ECU and other stuff so that when you undid the carpet the tray would flap down and give access to everything in a nice orderly way. Does anyone know aht all those stray relays are for (ie the ones not attached tot he fuse box)? Ideas, suggestions. Many thanks. Joe

That looks like a fuel cut off switch to me. Inertia switch that cuts power to the fuel pump in an accident. The button will be the reset switch if I am correct

That is correct. Its been relocated in the footwell and normally lives in the engine bay close to the expansion tank.

Yep! found one of them when stripping my dash out, wondered what it was.
Thought I would ask later, every day is a learning day!

Definetly a fuel cut off switch, mine is in my engine bay near the windscreen washer bottle.

Yes, the two metal cased ones are important one of them is the main ecu relay, it powers the ecu, injectors etc. The other one is the fuel pump relay.

The empty relay holders mostly relate to things you don't have but the rangerover does like the aircon. Others may be used on later V8Ss for cat related things. You can usually work out what they do by looking at the wire colours and consulting a rover hotwire ecu wiring diagram.

I've solved the miles of wiring problem by removing it and fitting a different ECU, As I made my loom to fit the S rather than just unplugging it from a nearby rangerover there isn't enough spare wire to put my ecu in the boot any more so it's a bit less messy.

Anyone know if the V6 cars have a fuel cutout switch, not seen one on mine yet. Be nice to know where it is if there is one.

Mine is in the engine bay too - but the coolant expansion tank is there instead of the washer bottle, thats in the boot
