I was in the car the other day, flicking through one of the many albums on my 8gb USB stick. I began to think how we take all this so much for granted now. I can remember getting one of my cars fitted with it's first 'decent' stereo and being amazed that you could press the fast forward button on the tape deck and it stopped at the start of the next song. No more guessing and constant fast forward/rewinding looking for the right song. "This is the future" thought I. 
So what's your earliest motoring memory, where you thought 'that's amazing/great/exciting'

I remember loving the fact that my first car has a rev counter 
None of the basic models I'd driven up to that point had them. I thought it was the bees knees The car was an AX GT and the rev counter was about the size of an old style 50p piece 
I remember thinking the CD player in my Dad's car was amazing, and I also remember the excitement when I got my first car with remote central locking - so useful on a pouring wet day when you can unlock the car before you get to it (that's about all it's useful for though!).

1990 Rover 216GSi first brand new car I had owned and with power steering and ABS - fantastic, also I thinks these were extras at the time.So what's your earliest motoring memory, where you thought 'that's amazing/great/exciting'

At the time the cd multi changer was pretty amazing in our 1996 Discovery tdi, we didn't even have a cd player in our house at the time.
+1 on that, when i was younger (circa 1998) my parents had a discovery es with cd multi changer, coolest thing ever was my thought at the time I use mem sticks in my cars and only the other day, I was explaining how amazing it was that you could fit thousands of songs on something the size of a stamp, yet when my Dad did discos in the 70's and 80's, a few hundred records filled a van! "Where is your record collection from the last 30 years?" A: "On my keyring".Amazing really.
I remember looking in the window of a Rover 3500 and preying my Dad bought it due to the cassette deck.I just couldn't believe that we would have the option of having our own music as apposed to some woeful MW radio.I was also impressed with the seat belt warning light in a family friends Austin Princess and in later years, the naff speech from the Maestro and things like electric/heated mirrors and windows and heated front screens.ABS, 4WD and turbocharging made me go "oooohhhh", too, as time went on.

Must be the Sony CD player with (wired) steering column mounted remote control, for me.
In my 205 it was probably worth more than the car.
In fact, the stereo itself was more 'to hand' than the remote stalk but that wasn't the point.
