Anyone diagnose my problem? (330ci)

I am taking the car into an Indy tomorrow for a diagnostic but was looking for potential problems.

Was on a run out yesterday and engine check light came on. Car continued to run fine. Only problem I could see was temp range kept going from middle normal down to a quarter and back up. Oil and coolant are topped up. Car appears to idle rough from cold start then settles.

Any ideas? I am thinking possible a sensor of some sort, maybe MAF?

could be a dodgy coil pack my old z4 used to start up a bit rough then it threw a dash light up turned out it was a misfire on cyliner 5 coil pack was changed all was good. With regards your temp gauge seems an odd one does it go up and down during normal running or does it go up in traffic and then down when its in motion if so probably a thermostat.

Goes up and down randomly. I am sure I can hear a small leak in the engine bay but I can't locate it. Going in at half 3 for a check.

Update...

It was a perished seal on the induction side causing air to escape.
