Anyone have any ideas how much oil the 5 ltr engine should use? I'm getting through about 1 ltr a week which is about 500 mile's. Went to santa pod 2 times this month which won't help but it does seem to use a lot.

PS no oil on the floor and nothing seems to come out the back all very strange.

Cheers

Not unusual. Using the 15W Motorsport Mobiul will sometimes help reduce the consumption. Covered in't bible.

mine drinks roughly one litre every 1000 miles, on the mobil 1 15w50 mentioned above. i have been told the 0w40 is not as good for the hydraulic tappets, but as i dont understand how they work, i have no idea if this is true or not!

i tryed mobil 1 0/40w once, and it was useing 1L about every 200 miles, now im on castrol RS 10 / 60 as recommended by other 5.0L drivers and TWS. this oil is top stuff and now useing about 1L to every 1.500 miles depending on how you drive.these engines are design to burn oil,but not at 1L every 500 miles.have fun and good look choosing the right oil.

Used Millers CFS 10W/60 since i've had the car. Like it says they do burn oil and mines about 1L every 1000 miles. Depends on the miles too, if it's a startup, 20 minute drive then switch off i'm sure it will use more than 2 500 mile motorway cruises. The Millers stuff is cheaper than Castrol and is full synthetic racing oil. £26 for 5 litres. If you struggle to get it my local stockist is Penistone Engineering Supplies, 01226 762253, and speak to Nik.

You can also buy online at www.millersoils.net , or go to the factory shop at their plant in Brighouse, Huddersfield if you live near.

Makes you wonder why it's necessary to have an oil change at 6000 miles - since the oldest drop of oil will only be a month old anyway.

Mine(400) used a little on Mobil 1, went over to Castrol RS - uses none at all now no matter how hot it gets.
Can't be bad oil if Maclaren use it on their three seater!
