The Silver one will do 2 bits of toast at a time, the Gold one does 4..

So what is special, or different about the Gold Ones??

Nothing at all, they're just the V8 version and the newer type (apparently the black ones are fairly rare as they were only on very early cars). I'm guessing they're a little more limited in their mapping capability but surely not by much..? I'm only after one as the race ones are not mappable and I'm going to need a remap to get my 4.7 to work properly..

Just checked mine, a '99 4.5, and it's a Silver one. Pretty sure my old 4.2 had a silver one as well (time for you to look Dave )
I have a '98 4.2 in the garage (although it's actually a 4.7) and that has a Gold one fitted. Incidentally the Silver one has the serial port connection inside the box, the Gold one does not.
