squeaking noise at low revs

hey guys

had my noble for about a week now fantastic car love it!

i have noticed at low revs or sometimes when stationary their is a small squeaking noise coming from the engine. when the revs increase it stops. a friend said might be a belt brusing against something. any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Could be belt noise - check your belt for wear, cracks, etc. If you don't know when it was last changed, it may be a good idea just to replace it.

If not the belt, the most common causes that I've found are either the idler pulley, or the alternator. To diagnose, I usually remove the serpentine belt, then reach down and spin each of the components driven by the belt. Feel for play, roughness, etc. See if any of them make noise.

a touch of silicone spray on the belt usually works for me

ok thanks will try the old wd-40 and check over the belts condition.

another squeking question when light breaking my pads are very loud, martyn who i bought it off said that becauase they are cold and nobles have a reputation for it, anything i can do to reduce the squeking there? (apart from putting wd-40 on them!)

My brakes never squeeked once for 25k miles... then I had the pads replaced and they squeeked all the time... got told they all did that which was clearly rubbish as it never used to.

Is there supposed to be an anti rattle pad bonded onto the back of the pad which lazy service people just dont bother removing and replacing when they change the pads?
Or is it simply pad choice?

Im not sure, its a bit of a headache tho apparently when they are warm the squeaking stops?!?

Don't put anything on the belt. Whilst it appears to work in the short term (so does spraying it with water) it just makes them prone to picking up dust and dirt which will only exacerbate the problem. Best solution to persistent squeaking belt is to remove it, check and thoroughly clean all the pulleys and replace the belt with a new one of the correct size.
For squeaking pads - remove, clean calipers and disks, replace pads with copper slip (or equivalent) smeared on back of pad and top and bottom front leading edges. No shims required.
