Parking near a Junction

Hi guys,

I have justed checked the Highway code and it states that:-

DO NOT stop or park

'opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space'

Does this apply to cars parked partially on the road i.e. half on the pavement or just to cars parked entirely on the road?

I am asking as a car in my village is parked partially on the road opposite a junction and is forcing oncoming traffic to move into the other side of the road whilst going past the junction and thus causing problems to cars turning left out of the junction into the oncoming vehicles. If that makes sense?

isnt bumping up the pavement just as bad as parking near a junction anyway?

This happens all the time where I live. We have not one, but two, sometimes three cars parked opposite a junction. This causes problems and near misses every day. I assume this is breaking a law, as we had the police up here knocking on people's doors a few months ago and the cars were moved immediately. However, two weeks later everything was back to normal.

Unless the police are able to fine these people nothing will change.

My village is very bad for this sort of thing, there simply isnt enough parking for everybody. Alot of people have been turning thier front gardens into driveways this summer but its not making a very big impact. I live on a street full of new builds and every house has enough drive space for at least 2 cars but there are still people who park on the road. I doubt much can or will be done about it though, just fortunate that its not caused me any majoy issues yet.

Funnily enough I nearly had an accident yesterday because of this. Someone had parked their car on my side of the road (left hand side) opposite a junction on the road that I live on. I very carefully moved out round the car at low speed, but just as I was alongside the parked car someone drove out of the junction on the right straight towards me, only looking to their right. They flicked their head back to look where they were going just in time to hit the brakes and stop to avoid hitting me. On a seperate note, he gave me a big stare as I drove off and I'm a bit worried about my car now

it's not against the law BUT if the police consider it an obstruction then it gets towed.

Precisely. Contrary to popular belief, the Highway Code isn't legislation, it's more of a best practice.

I'm sure there is a decent amount of stuff in there that is law, but not all of it is.
