I'm just having a 996TT 6 speed modified by them with new 3.1 Diff and higher 1st gear, plus internal oiling spray-bar and better LSD....
If you look at the gearing of a later LS engined Corvette then you realise that porker boxes are no where near the gearing you need for a V8 with loads of Torque.. IMHO

hi has anyone played around with different ratios in g50/03
california motorsports has quite a selection
i like the look of the crown wheel / pinion set,
its pricy though.
but it would make full use of all the gears
I had a gearbox ratio calulator here a few months ago for all the ultima boxes and it allowed you to play with ratios.california motorsports has quite a selection

Pm if you want it by email

I would say that is not true for road use. I am pretty happy with my setup and the longer 5th gear makes autobahn driving at low revs very relaxing. On Country roads with turns I use 2nd, 3rd and 4th mostly and I would say they nicewly fit the LS7 engine with 580hp.
Do not miss anyhting and you definetely do not need 6 gears, the torque of the engine makes this unnecessary. Gearing is always a compromise and no wonder that racing teams adopt their gearing to the individual track, but I sure do not want to go there with my car.
After greasing all uniball joints and eyes of the gear linkage, the mechanical shifting turned out quite nicely. It will never be like a sequential or paddle,
but I am using the car for fun, no need for the extra milliseconds of a racing gear selector.

Here's a New Ford GT ratios spread sheet...
and Here's a C5 Corvette

Not that I want to annoy anyone but if Ford and GM engineers have spent money on calculating these ratios on what are heavier cars than ours, then the same gearing in our lighter cars should be fine. But putting lower shorter gearing in lighter cars using the same engines just seems compromise to me....
Ask GMAN what happened when he had his gearbox modified.... Oh that's right he started breaking all the records....
