Buying a repaired Cat C write off - advice?

Hey, I've heard this site is a good place to ask something like this

I've been looking at a car, but it's a repaired Category C write off (my understanding is that this means the insurance company decided it'll be too expensive to repair?).

The seller (trade) has all the service & MOT history, HPI etc. and showed pictures of what the car looked like before they repaired it - it basically looked like it hit the back of a lorry or something (damage was to the bonnet & front bumper) and it was apparently mostly panel damage.
The car has a new 12mo MOT, 6mo tax and 3mo warranty. And new Michelin tyres.

Apparently they do a lot of repair work for insurance companies.

I suppose I just want to know if there's anything I should check about the car as I'm not too clued up with this sort of thing? Thanks!

Do your own hpi. Shop around for insurance for it.

Just how cheap is it? As its going to be hard to resell unless you let it go for little.

Pearsonally, unless you care clued up already on what you need to be looking at/for in a repaired car then steer clear unless you can get someone else to ok it. Whilst a car can be repaired to a point where they were just as good as before the accident, many don't.

I am not saying that the car is dangrous or not repaired correctly but it might not be so if you don't think you can make that decision then take someone with you that feels they can. As with anything though you will have to take on the stigma of a crashed car come resale time so make sure you get a good price on it when you buy it too.

Apart from that then as above really, get it HPI checked yourself rather than relying on someone elses and look at resale values etc so you know what you will potentially lose come resale.
