How dirty is it?

Is it raw?

..you Ultima bottom I mean! getmecoat

bearing in mind we have fairly 'soft' bottoms, I would have though it quite vunerable!

Is it battered or reasonably intact?

How many of us coated the ally panels against salt/water/mud etc?

I am trying to make my mind up about if I should spray it, cake it with underseal or equiv, or leave it bare?
Problem with painting/coating is that even with the best etch-primer, it can flake off or lift to allow salt-laden moisture to trap in between.

Any anecdotes would be welcome!

Cheers

Mine was very dirty, as you would expect, after 6 years. But, I have found that WD40 is fantastic when sprayed on a cloth and wiped all over, both ally and the powder coated floor.

As you said any sort of coating will show the test of time, then you have the headache of removing then recoating, so even next time I would just live with it as is.

I have noticed that my powder coated steel seat area is crazing on the bottom, I have had to do some repainting on the inside due to water ingres but at least the underside does not show any signs of rust, yet.

I sprayed mine with Hammerite Stone Chip Paint from day one.
I go under and have a look at each MOT and have seen nothing that made me want to get it up in the air and work on it. It has the odd scuff but nothing that required action to be taken.

Steve,

Did you scuff the ally, then use an etch-primer first - and if so, which one?

You could just Waxoil it......easily removed with a solvent rag if you or a new owner decide to polish, paint or whatever at some later stage!

Yeah- wondered about that, but then if we really got a hot day (yeh-right!), it might be a bit messy?

No just cleaned it with brake cleaner then sprayed on the stone chip. I think it is a sort of bitumen base as you can clean it off again at any time with solvents.

Put mine up on ramps last week for a perspective buyer and it was very clean and no corrosion. Has stood up well to 9 years and 15,900 miles of use. But my wishbones have surface rust on some areas, that's about the all of it.
