Am I crazy for lusting after a W140 V12?

I know there are some horror stories about these things, but I've always wanted one. They can be had for not too much over their V8 cousins and I am frankly tempted. I've read about their common problems (wiring, A/C, rear suspension, etc.), but I can't seem to help myself. Heart over mind and all that.
What's it like to live with a V12 daily driver, besides the incredible high cost of gas? (12 MPG U.S. or so, if you're lucky) You only live once, right? Why not get a that smoothness and thrill of an amazing engine every time you go somewhere? For very local stuff, I have a scooter that gets 85 mpg US.

absolutely do it. Like you say, you only live once. You're in LA, and you're complaining about the cost of fuel? You don't know you're born! 
The W140 must be just the most comfortable wafty car ever. It's the only car I've ever had where Mrs. Tuono fell asleep almost the instant she sat down. Peace and quiet until we got where we were going; every time. I'm thinking of getting a pair of front seats for home use. They knock spots off my La-z Boy for comfort. Wire 'em up to a 12v supply and you need never get up.
And the V12 goes like a bat out of hell...you know you want to. Bargain of the decade.

Very much want to, but the only thing that puts me off is the incomplete information that is found online vis-a-vis the vast difference in maintenance between the 500 and the 600. The thing is, I've read both: that they're not too different and that they're astronomically different. The W140 must be just the most comfortable wafty car ever. I want one too. Don't like that body shape as a rule, but with the v12...
Have driven the 500 and performance wasn't that great in my opinion. TC is intrusive too. But then it's not a sports car and i was trying to drive it like one.
I think in future they could be more desirable, once they become a classic and the running costs wont be such a big deal. In fact, I'd place some money on it.
