noise in the cabin

Since having my car tidied up I have noticed that there is quite a lot of either road or engine noise in the cabin.

I've been in other nobles and they do not have this noise. I have figured out the the noise is coming up through the tunnel and coming through the fabric covering the gear stick.

If I cover my hand over the fabric around the grear stick it significantly dampens the noise to an acceptable level.

I've had the underpan out and resealed. Should something have gone back in there to dampen the noise? Can one sound proof the tunnel??

I assume this noise was not there before the floor pan was resealed and only appeared after, in which case it would suggest that something to do with the floor pan reseal is now resonating or amplifying the sounds from the engine bay.

Its a bit of a git as I'm sure you do not want to take off the floor pan to investigate.
So all i can suggest is making the access panel for the handbrake cable bigger, which is a good mod to do anyway and then you can sound insulate the tunnel from the inside local to the handbrake with 1" Dynaliner.
If you decide to do this just make sure to get plenty of good fixings between the new access plate and the main tunnel plate, the tunnel is a structural spine and if cutting a square or rectangular access void make sure to radius the corners, basically drill the 4 corners before cutting.

Yes I think you are right it probably is resonating noise that I am getting.

Maybe because it is now a sealed diaphram ... how annoying.

Oh well at least it does not leak!!!

JNM put some additional padding around the gaiter on mine last time it was in for a service, as they said it was noiser than most. So might be worth doing ?

did they access through the floor?

Or can you actually get access from the top? if you undo the screws holding in the plate surrounding the gear stick does it all come off and allow you to put something in there to dampen the noise??
