impossible to go cheaper for less

ive just watched top gear with the clio 182 (im sat at home on paternity)

i used to have the said car, which i picked up for 11k, rather than the rrp of £14,700. albeit with a few hundred miles on.

jezza stated "impossible to go cheaper for less"

what NEW car could currently hold that mantle?

baring in you can get coniderable discounts on uk cars online.

and you can pick pre-reg or ex demo with minimal mileage.

Depends whether its new or not really,
An impreza import(L reg) can be had from around £1500 these are quite quick,
Also E39 M5's are quite quick and can be grabbed for about £8,000 upwards.
If new then i expect the Renault Twingo 133 is a contender!

I assume the OP is meaning speed, as in bang per buck type of thing. But that isn't what that statement says.

but im tired, with new baby on my rm and try to pass time without watched the ste that is daytime telly.

Guess it depends how big a bang and how many bucks.

I mean a 300hp Impreza STI is quite a bit more powerful and faster than a Clio 200. And is still good money, but which is the best bang per buck is probably up for debate.

Are there any Bathurst 500 VXR8's still for sale new? In HP terms they must be hard to beat I'd think.

Nissan 370z probably a fairly good contender too considering it's plus 300HP rating.

I remember that episode and the point was that a 182 would go around the track faster than anything else for the price brand new. Today would be the clio 200 or possibly vauxhall corsa vxr at around about £16k each. Dont think a fiat 500 essesse would keep up.

I guess it all depends. Some people use Caterhams daily and there are hundreds of varying kits out there. Also if track speed is your priority does practicality, let alone a new stock car really have any relevance?? I know what you mean, but I can't see the point, unless money is no object. But then if it wasn't, you hardly be looking at the cheapest.

RX8's are good value I think.

Were we or were we not including ex-demo cars for that? Since the whole system falls apart if you aren't going on list price, surely it makes sense to stick to list? In which case Fabia VRS iirc is £15,700 and therefore the answer is yes - Renault Clio Cup?

He's right, the statements are trying to contradict each other.
If you want something fast, you could get something for 14k that will give your mum a heart attack.

You can go fast, or new, but together, you're going to have to bring down expectations on one criteria by a huge amount.

i dont disagree, the fabia does nothing for me in terms of style.

but some people like the idea of trouble free motoring from a new car, rather than gambling on a older car which is more likely to break.

some people also like new cars to be economical and cheap to run. and dont argue that if you wanna go fast, you should want economy because that bks.
