Driving down the the shops (not far, and could have gone by bike, but hey, the sun was shining) a G reg Golf coming the other way decided to turn right and didn't see a red TVR on the road in front. I reckon I was about ten feet away. Foutunately, neither of us was going very quickly, so no-one was hurt. Equally luckily, we just missed collecting a cyclist coming up the road the Golf was aiming for. But the P&J looked very sorry. weeping

As you can see, it will need a drop of Radweld to fix my brand new ally Radtec.

I was devastated. The worst was the top O/S wishbone mount was pulled in where the Golf had hit and bent the top cross bar on the chassis. The fibreglass I know is mostly decoration.

The Police asked if I wanted to prosecute for dangerous driving. I said not as (a) the kid made a mistake (a bad one), (b) he had lost his car (that wasn't going to get fixed), (c) his next insurance quote is going to be astronomical and (d) his mother was in the car. I figured he was in enough trouble anyway.

But the good news is that Adrian from Central arrived and said it was all fixable. Adrian has been great. "Don't you worry Roger, it will be back with you better than new" was music to my ears, and a huge relief. (Can we name and praise?) I thought I was looking at a write off. Will keep you posted on progress, but looking forward to getting the Tiv back. smile

Roger, now you have had a few days to get over the shock, good time to think about the "extras" you can add while the front is being rebuilt. For example, headlamp upgrades, induction, exhaust mods etc.

Real shame you have to go through all the hassle but at least TVR's well understood, parts readily available & are always repairable !!

Way ahead of you. While the body is off the chassis is being blasted and cleaned and the outriggers are being replaced. Time to fit a roll over bar and four point harness. The headlamps have been shattered, so xenons are going back in. Bent ARB will go back with polybushes (already have done the suspension, and will do the rear ARB this winter). Adrian is doing a full re-spray, as it was a bit tatty after all of this time. The rad wil be repalced with another radtec (wish I had held off spending the money a few months ago).

Induction is something I may come back to. There is a budget to consider!

Looking forward to getting behind the wheel again. Mine is nowhere near as bad as Quinny's, so a big relief to see what can be done. I suppose that is the advantage of a solid chassis. Glad I wasn't in the Beemer, or that would have been a very different story. Crumple zones and air bags are good in a big shunt, but are v expensive to put right, if at all. One up for the old technology. Very slight straighten out of the suspension mounts, plus the fibreglass decoration and new rad etc, and should be good as new.

Snag is, now the chassis and body are going to look as good as Blackpool did it, I have had to look at the interior. The carpets had to be skipped - under the seats was another ecosystem, and when I changed the clutch master cylinder sometime back there was quite a bit of fluid in the driver footwell. And the seats are definately showing their age.

Any views on what seats can be fitted? Some of the later cars have very nice seats (with a bit more support than standard Griff).

I had a look round some of the breaker sites, and (very sadly) there seem to be quite a few Tuscans, Cerbs and Tams/350s as Cat B. Anyone gone down this route? Or got a set of magnolia seats from a later car in the back of the garage?

Cheers, roger

You'll definately have to post up some pics when it is all fixed up. Sounds like it will be a much improved car once all finisged.

With regards to the seats I have recently purchased a pair of Cerb seats for mine, haven't got around to fitting them yet. I was sold after being taken out for a spin in an SE Griff which has the seats as standard. Much more support and much more comfortable - no sliding around when cornering. I have seen a few with Tuscan seats which look good, never been in one so cannot comment on comfort / fit.

There is a cerb seat installation guide courtesy of BB here:
