I am making a kit car from scratch and I was looking for some advice on what jubs to use, car is rear wheel drive with higher end power ratings (400bhp range) so I was thinking about using a full set of Corvette C6 hubs. Is this a good idea (easy to source from the US new, lightweight and relatively cheap), or would you recommend using something else?

might be worth looking at TVR cerbera, fronts are alloy and very easy to modify (metal plate top and bottom) rears steel. If you want alloy rears ultima uprights are good and come up for sale now and again may be easier to get than corvette and better stud pattern for wheel choice. I used this setup on my mid engined car with custom wishbones all rose jointed fully adjustable @ 500 bhp 520Lbs torque with no problems handles very well.
Will try and get some pictures for you if they are of interest.

couldnt disagree more, ultima hubs would be a terrible choice as only ultima wheels/brakes would fit and they cost a fortune, TVR use a similar stud and again bespoke wheel offsets etc... corvette has a much better range of aftermarket wheels and you can also look to use their brakes... another idea is to look at porsche, again easy wheel choice and brake packages which will suit a rear engined car.

I've used porsche hubs and bearing in some bespoke alloy uprights, I bought the uprights as blanks and had them machined but you could make something from steel... I got wheels for 1k (my ultima ones were 2k) and a set of massive 6 pot brakes all round with 355mm discs for £600 (my ultima was 2.5k for 4 pots).

The biggest issue with using the actual upright from either corvette or porsche will be that they are designed to use wishbone pickups that probably wont suit you so you either need to find one thats easy to modify or make your own.

Its worth spending a bit more getting the hubs/uprights right because it can save you lots of money on wheels and brakes.

the TVR uses a ford stud pattern offsets are irrelevant when building your own car!! I bought the fronts with discs and AP 4 pots for a very good price there always seem to be a few in breakers I bought a spare set not long ago. Ultima uprights also use ford hubs/bearings and stud pattern (thought you would know this andygtr)any caliper/ disc can be adapted to fit I used ford vented discs with AP 2 pots again I sourced the ultima uprights and rear brakes for under 1k.
Have you checked out the price of Porsche parts recently!!!!! Only speaking from experience (and research)trying to help outsmile

love your car by the way smile

I know that Ultima uses ford hubs, but its granada hubs and granada wheels in large widths with half decent offsets that you need on a midi are only really available in a Ultima size... that said my Noble uses granada hubs and I have 3 sets of these and they were relativelly cheap.

I agree any brake package can be made, but that one of stuff is still not cheap... if you can buy an off the shelf wheel and brake package then there are bargains to be had.

I guess we should have asked if he wants to buy everything brand new or source some bargain 2nd hand parts!

Re: Ultima hubs. I'd be interested in what people think of this video.

7 minutes in. I've been in some of Chris' cars and he does make some superb handling cars. He's not at all complementary about Ultima's front suspension design.

You might check out Palatov Motorsport's modular hubs.

They are in the US though.
