Diesiel Mondeo Down On Power And Strange Noise.

Hi a few weeks ago my friends 2.0 130 diesiel mondeo developed a tinny ratly sound when under load,this has now developed in to a whooshing noise and a slight hesitation when under load both symptons dissapear when maintaining speed.
He removed the hear shield from above the turbo and there are signs of soot on the under side of the heat shield,just wondered if anyone has come across these symptons .

Update.When cruising at 2000 rpm and above the car will intermittently cough and puff smoke from the exhaust,and the car will not maintain speed when on cruise control.
There are no warning lights.

Not too dissimilar to a problem I've recently had with my diesel Jaguar X-Type. Have a look at this thread.

The layout is very similar between the two cars, although the hose in question is slightly different. New Ford part is around £48 + VAT.

Thanks for the link. Problem turned out to be a split pipe from the egr valve to the inter cooler.
As you said common fault.
