So Barry has been made redundant because, evidently he is so fat, if he fell on a colleague he could crush them. This one covers a few issues, wonder if his employer considered Barrys welfare if he toppled over? Poor bloke, still he could get a job as a hockey goalie, just shove him in the net, no chance of a goal and he would soon be representing team GB.

Sounds like Barry is a less than top-performing employee and a bright spark in HR has had a good idea.

Like it.

What the fk?

Redundancy has to do with the role, not the person doing it.

I thought that, but its in the paper so it must be true, seems you can be made redundant for being fat and a trip hazard.

Just "Barry" is grounds enough for redundancy.

Love it. Though, I see a law suit waiting to happen, soon enough some two-bit lawyer will be starting to compare it with a guy in a wheelchair rolling over another employee's feet, being utter discrimination, having the employer to rebuilt his facility to accommodate the fat bd so he has a non-removable position there, so he can sit there for a couple of months after which he can go further and get a disability claim for back problems.

Unfortunately for him, there is a limit on protective equipment size just for this reason hehe

The DSS say he is "Fit for work" so he cant claim incapacity benefit, just jobseekers allowance. He says his heart won't take a gastric band operation. Seems a vicious circle to me - weighs too much so poor heart, solution, gastric band, cant because of poor heart! What can you do?

It's remote controls.

Back when we were lucky to have a B&W telly in our 'ole inth' road we had to get up to change to the other channel.

All this were field ya naws

Aye. Poor metabolism? Load of tosh, I say. They should be given food vouchers instead of benefits, with a limit on what you can use them for - groceries, meat, and essentials only. None of these processed foods or pizzas. Takeaways are a luxury, so you'd have to save in order to buy them. No sympathy for them whatsoever.

He is big boned, with a generous covering of lard. Its genetic, ie he is genetically programmed to go for a pie and a cake not a salad and tuna. He needs counselling and help from the state.

The couple of facts from the story that make you think that he may not be the ideal working candidate are:

1. He tripped over (hence the assesment) and was off work for three weeks because of it - article did not mention injuries of any sort.

2. He has "severe" IBS and sometimes can't make it upstairs in time so his wife has to hose him down in the shower..
