Banger query. Volvo 940 Celebration 2.3 estate.

Need a banger in a hurry and one of these has appeared on my radar.
It's got enough T&T for it to be viable at the price.
Not being a Volvo expert I wanted to know if there're any common faults and/'or if it should be avoided at all costs.
There's also an 850 2.5 10v estate with longer T&T on it which is a shade more expensive, but I'm put off by it 'cos I don't like FWD and it's an auto' but otherwise it's quite appealing.
What would be the better bet d'you think?
