1 series and 3 series E90 wheels interchangeable?

Presumabaly this is a commonly asked question but I couldnt find any reference in the last month or so.
Bought a Dec 06 Touring with plain 16" and have seen some nice 17" Sport wheels from a 1 series on Ebay, most of the ads seem to suggest they have the same fitment, is that true? Aside from originality and odd looks from you purists, any downside anyone is aware of - particularly in the performance / safety areas.

I think the 1er has an ET47 and the E91 an ET34.
So if that is the case you'll need spacers (10/12mm) all round on the Tourer for it to look aesthetically pleasing.
