I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to these sorts of things and will probably get it wrong so...

Car is currently on a Sorn in my parents garage.

Car is neither insured, taxed or MOT'd.

I want to put her back on the road in a couple of weeks time.

Obviously to drive her to get her MOT'd she will need to be insured.

In order to buy road tax, or whatever the damn thing is called these days, it seems from a quick glance online that she needs to have a valid MOT.

So I obviously insure her before I do anything else. I then book an MOT. Drive her there. She passes or fails. If she passes, I then present myself at the post office/or buy online, the tax.

This is the correct way round right? I assume if I prang her on the way to or from the MOT they will just reduce the payout on the car, and I would still be covered for any third party claims??

But arnt you breaking the law driving your untaxed car to the Mot station?

Everything is fine and legal to drive (a fairly direct route to a fairly local) MOT station without road tax providing you have insurance.

As you say, insure it, MOT it, drive home and tax it on line or at a PO or a DVLA office.

Probably doing it in person is best in this case cos you have the disc immediately rather than a few days later.

Just make sure you book the car in at the MOT station before you drive it there!

Not when driving to a pre booked MOT or VIC check
