Old vinyl wrapped cars hiding horrors?!

My sills will more than likely need some welding for the next Mot. I then thought how nice it would be to strip the car down and restore the bodywork and get it painted.

Now, the shortcut bodge part of my brain instantly kicked in and told me I could just get a vinyl wrap in what ever colour and hide the rust away!

I know this is a crap short term solution and I really wouldn't think of trying it on, but I wonder how an Mot tester would deal with a wrapped old car? It could be hiding anything!

A wrap wouldn't hide the bubbles/flakes from the rust. It might cover surface rust at first, but it certainly wouldn't last.

I've been toying with the idea of wrapping my car (and have some material to play with as it happens, might try it tomorrow, seeing as I'm stuck in the country due to a certain orange airline) and this did cross my mind.

But I suppose it would only cover up surface rust on body panels anyway, and if you've got rust there then the sills etc will be shot anyway.

Isn't it the case that if you cover up the sills etc then they can't remove the covering to inspect them? So essentially the same thing. I might be talking out of my arse about that though.
