Parking OPPOSITE school 'no parking' markings

Sorry guys, the name of the road marking escapes me...

The wife parked opposite the entrance to a school today to pick youngest up from playgroup (which is opposite). It's quite a wide road, no road markings on the side she parked, and it wasn't at school time btw so no other traffic. Not causing an obstruction.

She was approached by s 'Special' who gave her a polite notice not to park opposite the school markings. Said if she parked there again he'd give her a ticket. She asked what law she was breaking, what part of the highway code prohibited parking opposite school markings. He said he didn't know but he'd been told to ticket anyone that parked there!

Seems ludicrous to me- any thoughts?

I thought you could only be given a ticket if the parking restrictions were clearly marked on the road surface (double yellow lines) and/or indicated clearly on lamp posts along the road side.

Possibly an over ascertive twunt in a uniform.

Cant see how you would get a ticket for that unless there is some other restriction on the area/road. Postcode/google earth view?

Find out who employs this "Special" and then complain to them VERY LOUDLY.

Ok, hope this works. I appreciate the parking situation is far from ideal- there really out to be double yellow lines right down one side to stop the odd parent creating a chicane.

I think she was parked roughly where the blue car is on street view- but not on the pavement!

The signage (on both sides of the road) clearly state no stopping Mon - Fri 8am-5pm on school entrance markings.

If you're not on the markings then you are fine.
