Hey chaps, just wondering what sort of MPG we get from the V8S?
With the body not being very heavy (more likely less than mine) I would think easy double figures?
Not having actually driven the V8S, I'm thinking it's a more relaxed drive than my Supercharged 350Z was, every trip was a qualifying lap and down to single figures (low).
Body off party arranged for Saturday pm!!!!!!

Does anyone know if the LT77 gearbox can be fitted with a higher ratio 5th gear to give a relaxed crusing "over-drive" (and maybe marginally better mpg)? I reckon there's more than enough torque to allow 80mph at around 2250rpm (theoretically of course).
Sounds like an awful lot of pain for me for very little reward! If you want a relaxed cruiser you might be better off changing the final drive (diff) ratio, or alternatively change the exhaust for something a bit quieter.
I do know what you mean - my exhaust is very loud indeed, but I'm not changing it any time soon, I have to win one loudest V8 trophy first

I'd certainly hope so!
Used to get the best part of 30mpg in my V6 cruising, well, somewhat faster than I can repeat here down the motorway. Even on the track I think it was high teens at worst.
Ironically the like-for-like fuel consumption figures for my TVR were about the same as my 1.8-litre 4-cylinder MX5 beforehand.

Spooky - I've made that comparison to my MX5 and come to the same conclusion. Haven't had chance to use the V6 S too much yet so maybe the current 28mpg may go down when I get more familiar with the beast ;-)Edited by GadgeS3C on Friday 10th September 11:56

The only time I ever worked it out was from the Isle of Wight to Cadwell Park mostly on motorways with some attempt being made to not use too much fuel, I got pretty much spot on 25mpg. I've never bothered to work it out locally as I would probably be quite upset when I found it was about 12mpg. Still, it's smiles per gallon that count.
Just spoken to Ashcroft Transmissions in Dunstable who recondition Land Rover 'boxes. They can fit a higher ratio 5th but, as the young lady assured me most insistently, a LT77 box is not a Land Rover box! Any one one know of company which knows what its taking about?

Surely a a higher diff ratio would be easier and cheaper ?
On a Lotus 7 I had, I just used 2 different sized sets of rear wheels. One for short sprinty type trips and one for longer journeys. Just allow for the speedo being slightly out, but of course these days you can use your satnav for accurate speed. MUCH easier option.

If you change the diff you increase the ratio for all 5 gears which will impact on the acceleration. For me (and many others maybe?) this would take away one of the main thrills of the V8S, and of course the wonderful noise as it goes up through the gears. Just changing the 5th ratio will leave you with all the acceleration (& noise) but reduces the rpm needed at motorway speeds and should, in theory anyway, reduce the mpg on long motorway runs. The torque available from the 4L V8 means there shouldn't be any need to drop a cog to overtake, unless of course you want to “demonstrate” the noise to someone eg the odd Aston Martin or Chav box with a dustbin hanging off the back to show them what a proper engine sounds like. The exhaust noise at the legal limit is mostly drowned out by the wind noise anyway. (nb the guy in the Aston may not have the authentic noise but he will be able to walk upright without bleeding ears after a 300+ mile run - but you can't have everything!).
